The Daroff-Dell'Osso Ocular Motility Laboratory (OMLAB)

EBME 319 laboratory section, Spring 2010
The lab will be held in the Ocular Motility Laboratory at the VA Medical Center. Here's a map to the VA.
It should take about 15 to 20 minutes to walk here from campus.
Please note that there is NO PARKING available at the VA for non patients. The VA Police ticket aggressively and love it.
The laboratory is Room BC-300. To find it, follow the signs to the Main Elevators and go to the basement.
Follow the signs to "Ocular Motility."

UPDATE: There is so much unannounced construction going on that there is no predicting which corridors will be open and which will be closed. If you come across a blocked hallway on the way to the lab, you will need to backtrack and try from the other direction. Sorry I can't be more specific than this. If you get really stuck, call the lab at (216) 421-3224 (or extension 5227 from a VA house phone).

PRIOR TO THE LAB:
The pre-lab lecture will be on Thursday, Feb. 18, 6-7 PM, Wickenden 322.
Download the EBME 319 handout. (Zipped PDF).
Print this out and bring it with you. Read it carefully and completely before the lab.
There is a lot of information that you should be familiar with so that you can perform the experiments properly and in a timely manner.
And I'm not promising that there won't be a quiz...

THE LAB ITSELF:
Tuesday Session (from 1:00PM to 5:00 PM)
Wednesday Session (from 1PM to 5:00 PM)
Thursday Session (from 1:00PM to 5:00 PM)

AFTER THE LAB:
The post-lab session will be held on Thursday, March 4th, 6-7 PM in Wickenden 322. The report will be due two weeks later, on the 18th. This will give you some extra time to go through your data and prepare any questions you may have for us. Don't procrastinate, however; last-minute questions receive last-minute answers...

Here are some notes that we will cover in the post-lab talk to help you with your write up. (Last update: 17 February 2010)
BIG HINT: Read these BEFORE the lab, so you know what to expect!

Two of the papers referenced for the writeup:
Abel et al. (Zipped PDF)
Sharpe et al. (Zipped PDF)

Analysis software:
Download 'Zoomtool'. (Zipped archive)

NEED A LITTLE HELP?
Do you have a question about the laboratory report?
I have combed through email I have received from EBME 319 students in years past.
Here they are, compiled and minimally edited for your benefit.
Please read through them to see if your question has already been asked and answered.
If you email us, put "BME319" in the subject line to avoid our spam filters!

Just for fun, here is a link to an article about reliability theory and aging that I once mentioned during a pre-lab lecture.

Keep watching this space for late-breaking notes and tips about the laboratory sessions
